In 2003 Madonna changed again releasing a pop/folk album even tho American life only sold 4 million she still took a risk with the sound of the album.
In 2000 she reinvented again releasing music a pop/country album scoring a number 1 hit with music and the album continued on with the success of Ray of light selling 11 million. Then in 1998 Madonna brought electronica/trance music into mainstream with Ray of light which sold 15 million world wide as a 40 year old! In 1994 she needed to reinvent herself again as many people were over the over sexed madonna so she released an Rnb album bedtime stories and scored her biggest hit single in the States in Take a bow (no.1 7 weeks). Tho the album was Madonna's lowest selling album at that stage (6 million) it is one of her most strongest releases in her career. Then in 1992 her biggest risk by her and probably in pop culture was her erotica album where she mixed pop with hip hop in an ablum which Madonna sang about her sexual fantasies. Her relationship with her dad and her divorce and love foe Sean penn. Her best album imo and her artistic peak was in 1989 with like a prayer a very personal album from Madonna about her catholic views, her death of her mother when she was 5. Then she started to grow as an artist singing and producing more mature work with her true blue album in 1986. Her work from her Madonna and like a virgin albums was just pure bubble gum pop. Madonna In my opinion beats micheal as her music was alot more diverse she was always growing as an artist and took bigger risks. Like a virgin selling 20 million, true blue 22 million, like a prayer 14 million and the immaculate collection 28 million ( highest selling greatest hits album from a solo artist). Madonna on the other hand her sales peak was from 1984-1990. Hit after hit but too me all his albums after thriller sounded the same as he was just trying to replicate his thriller success but never really grew as and artist after 1982! Michaels sales peak was between 1979to 1991! Of the wall his disco influenced album sold 19 million, Thriller the highest selling album has sold 68 million world wide, bad sold 32 million and dangerous 28 million Micheal could really do no wrong. But the question I'm asking is in your opinion which artist has had a better discography? Both have been massively successful especially in the 80's and 90's Micheal who is the second most successful male artist of all time with over 400 million records sold world wide ( some Quote 750 million but no one has ever sold that many the Beatles are at 500 million records and Elivs at 450 million) and madonna the most successful female artist of all time with 320 million records sold world wide. Arguably the two biggest names in pop music in the last 32 years Michael Jackson and Madonna both known as the king and queen of pop.
